It all began with an idea

Our vision was to launch our packrafts on the Sacramento River near our home of Mt. Shasta and follow the river’s course all the way to the sea. As the idea grew and the crew came together, the scope of the adventure grew as well.

About our Adventure

From the Klamath Mountains of Northern California all the way to the San Francisco Bay, we met with diverse stakeholders to gain insight on the issues the Sacramento River and its communities currently face.

In the spring of 2021, we launched our loaded packrafts at the headwaters of the Sacramento River and navigated the river as it entered reservoirs, was obstructed by dams, and funneled its way through weirs and bypasses on its complicated journey to its final destination - the Pacific Ocean.

Along our journey we interveiwed and talked with diverse stakeholders who have an interest in the river. Our goal was to learn more about the river’s unique importance to different stakeholders and to better understand their views on key issues affecting the river.

During our trip, Jamie collected footage to use in creating a film compilation of our experiences and interviews. We are excited to announce the premier of our film, A River’s Reach, Dec 2nd in Mt. Shasta CA. The goal of the film is to convey a holistic picture of the Sacramento River and capture its unique importance to so many people and communities.

As far as our research has shown, we are the first all-female crew to attempt to paddle the entire Sacramento River from its headwaters near Mt. Shasta, CA. As an all-women’s crew, we hope to empower other women and female-identifying folks to dream big and get after their own rad adventures.

We are ambassadors for the Cairn Project, a non-profit that expands outdoor access for young women and women by supporting community-based wilderness and outdoor education groups around the country through a small grants program. We recognize how our careers and passion for the outdoors have been greatly impacted by having access to nature from a young age, and hope our project can support more women getting outside. Please consider donating to our project. All funds raised in excess of those needed to produce our documentary film will be donated to the Cairn Project.
